NRF-Loss Prevention Expo 2013: Make The Most of Retail’s Biggest Shopping Season With Customer Analytics

NRF Loss Prevention 2013

They say we don’t have much change of the seasons here in California, but retailers can tell you differently. No sooner do the kids get out of school, than it’s “Back to School” season, following by “Fall Shopping,” “Halloween Shopping,” and finally – wait for it – “Holiday Season,” where retailers realize as much as 40% of their annual revenues! Given the high stakes involved, retailers put great emphasis on, and planning into, their holiday season preparation.

Make An Investment In Better Surveillance Technology: Tyco IS Annual Electronic Security Products Expo

GPS Backup When buying a new car a decade ago, I had to decide whether or not to get the GPS option. Since I had never used one before, I wasn’t sure I would need it. Plus, it seemed like a lot of money to spend at the time. Flashing forward to today, I’m not sure how I ever lived without it! Making an investment in technology that will pay off down the road will prove to be one of the smartest decisions you will make.

Investing in Technology

In anticipation of the Tyco IS Annual Electronic Security Products Expo happening this week, let me share with you how Mary Lownes of Tyco helped her customer lay the foundation for success. How? By working with her retail customer to invest in technology that would further their success. A luxury watch retailer had analog DVRs with hard drives that were burning up and provided only analog video. The retailer also wasn’t able to leverage its existing system for much else. They needed help fast!

Retailers, Visiting RILA? Learn How To Create That “Wow!” Shopping Experience

Creating a great shopping experience

Fond memories of my best-ever in-store shopping experience: store staff came outside to greet and hand out free cosmetic samples to those of us waiting in line to get in. As we entered the store, staff lined up on both sides of the aisle and applauded us as we entered. Finally, champagne & hors d’oeuvres were offered to us while we shopped. True story. A great shopping experience can be so exhilarating! Imagine your ideal in-store scenario: the merchandise you want is right where you can easily find it. A genuinely caring salesperson is available to you as soon as you are ready. They make you feel special and like you are getting a great deal.

Join 3VR in Lisle, Illinois: Happy 25th Anniversary to the Midwest Security Conference!

Midwest Security Conference 2013

Twenty-five years of showcasing the forefront of security technology is quite an accomplishment. Midwest Security Conference (MSC) attendees can expect to see and learn more than they ever thought possible at this year’s show. Wouldn’t it be interesting to compare the technologies shown at that the very first conference to those being shown this year? In 1988, topics such as hacking the airways and fiber-optic sensors for perimeter security might have been discussed. Compare to today, discussions are more likely to include the latest in forensic search or using facial recognition technology to stop crime.

Working Smarter With a Smart Video Intelligence System

bridge toll booth

The tollbooth for the bridge was quickly approaching and I found myself frantically searching in my glove box for the electronic transponder that would allow me to pass without having to stop and pay. Where was it? Not in the top glove box. Not in the lower glove box either. I didn’t have time to stop and clean out my car, nor did I want to pull over to search for it. It would take too much time – time I needed to do other, more important things. If only I had a tool that would make it jump out at me, like a giant magnet to find the "needle in the haystack."

Serendipity: SCDigest Meets 3VR at NRF

SCDigest Video Review

You know that ‘happy accident’ or ‘pleasant surprise’ when you accidentally find something good or useful for another purpose while not specifically searching for it? Such as discovering you could brush your teeth with baking soda if you ran out of toothpaste. Or learning you could wrap a wet paint brush in plastic wrap, without cleaning it first, until you were ready to use it again. Maybe that was how the cellular network providers felt when they discovered customers using their infrastructure more for data than voice.

To paraphrase an old commercial, ‘When Gartner talks, people listen.’ So when the world’s leading information technology research and advisory company says that Actionable Analytics are one of the Top 10 Strategic Technology Trends for 2013, it makes sense to pay attention to how this major trend can help your business.

How to Avoid Falling Coconuts & Beat ATM Fraudsters at Their Own Game

ATM skimming fraud

Have you ever been hit on the head by a coconut?

After casually asking my husband to pick up some tickets for a recent lottery with a particularly large jackpot, he – being the mathematician that he is – responded, “You are 3 times more likely to get hit on the head by a coconut than you are to win the lottery.” Yes, but whenever I see a coconut falling, I step out of the way, thus changing my odds.

We all share the instinct to protect ourselves, such as when we dart away from a moving object or plan ahead by wearing seatbelts or a helmet. Isn’t it better to plan our protection and stay three steps ahead of the game, than it is to be forced into a quick reaction? Banks, too, help ensure their survival by the self-protective actions they take.

Banks Can Self-Protect by Beating Criminals to the Punch

One of the fastest growing areas of crime for banks is ATM Skimming, where criminals attach small devices to parts of teller machines to steal bank card information. As thieves develop more technologically advanced skimming tools such as tiny pinhole cameras, financial institutions must take proactive steps to protect themselves and their customers.

A Salute to Those Who Support Our Veterans

Military Friendly Companies

Most all of us have family and friends who have served in our armed services. This month our country salutes our military personnel, past and present, honoring our armed service veterans since WWI hostilities were formally ended during the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. What stories have they shared with you about that time in their life?

We Salute Military-Friendly Companies

Today, we honor and support companies who are military friendly: those who recruit a high percentage of employees with prior military service and make efforts to retain those in the National Guard and Reserve Services. One of our esteemed customers, 24-Hour Fitness, has been named one of Top 100 "Military Friendly" companies.

‘Easier’ Makes Us Happier: Faster Loss Prevention Probes for Credit Union

WSECU

What is it about finding an easier way to do something that makes us happier?

I have fond memories of our first DVR: recording favorite shows while we were out and then fast forwarding through the commercials when we watched them.

Or how happy I was putting my first debit card to use: no more having to get cash from the bank or constantly carrying around a checkbook. Remember first being able take pictures with your cell phone and send them to people without having to develop film? It was instantly life-changing.
