Gold and silver would be the obvious choices, if you were making a hypothetical list of metals to steal. But copper? Apparently it's all the rage these days.
The latest trend throughout the country may surprise you, but law enforcement agencies across the country have been seeing increased numbers of thefts of metals such as copper, bronze, brass and aluminum.
A new report from the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) confirms more than 25,000 insurance claims were identified for the theft of these metals between January 2009 and December 2011, with 96.1 percent pertaining to copper alone.
North Carolina, along with Ohio, Texas, Georgia, California, Illinois, Pennsylvania, New York, Florida and Michigan, ranked in the top ten states with the most metal theft claims.
