Testing IP Camera Compatibility with the Generic Driver

Network camera models that are not explicitly listed on the Supported Cameras FAQ may still be accessed by a SmartRecorder using the generic IP camera driver (6.0.6 software and later).

Prospective 3VR customers can use VLC, a free media player, to test whether a given camera will be compatible with the generic driver.

Note: Because the generic driver is not specific to any one camera model, all video programming will have to be performed on the camera itself; the 3VR can access the video feed, but not the camera's settings.

  1. Download and install VLC.
  2. Launch VLC and select Open Network Stream.
  3. Select the Protocol (RSTP or HTTP) and enter the Address of the IP camera’s network stream (this information should be listed in the camera documentation).

  4. Click Play. If video appears, the camera is compatible with the generic driver.
